Nautical Nomad

These are the journals of a modern-day nomad from St. Paul, Minnesota. Included are land and sea travels from Africa to the Mediterranean to Indonesia. I've volunteered--released baby turtles into the ocean, conducted fish research, and written a marketing plan for a non-profit. The recent forcus has been to immerse myself in the local culture.

Honduras y Guatemala

I scooted out of Minnesota just in case there was another snow storm. Sure didn´t want to be caught in one. I landed in Honduras to 80-some degree weather to visit with cruising friends, Tom and Rose and perfect weather to enjoy two days of scuba diving in Roatan before getting on a ferry, and then a 12-plus hour bus ride to Antigua, Guatemala for Holy Week.

Holy Week in Anituga is something to experience. It´s one of the biggest Easter celebrations in the world, at least when it comes to ¨carpet making¨. The big thing is carpets made of sawdust, seeds, flowers, and other natural materials. We´ve seen one small procession with more to come in the next few days, ending on Saturday evening when the Guatemalans celebrate Easter.
